Fundamental I Bilingual
Curriculum
Our Primary School Program (Fundamental I), accredited by the Ministry of Education, is a bilingual full-day program, offering 4 hours of classes and instruction in Portuguese and 3 hours in English.
Tots & Teens’ greatest difference is our specific programs that facilitate the acquisition of English and Portuguese, in the case of foreign students, based on the level of proficiency of the child in each language, with an adaptation of the material and of the number of hours of instruction.
Our teaching method is based on projects. This type of learning unites practice and theory in different contexts, exploring communication between the teacher and students, boosting interaction and new discoveries.
Teaching and creating opportunities for students to immediately put their knowledge into practice, accelerates their interest and increases the retention of the studied content.
At Tots & Teens, we encourage our students to immerse themselves in their learning by practicing and exchanging experiences with their colleagues and teachers.
Níveis
1st Grade
Age: 6 years
This is when Portuguese is introduced for the first time to our students and therefore we offer two extra classes per week providing more opportunity to absorb the reading and writing process, effectively.
A maximum of 12 students allows us to offer more individualized attention and monitoring of each child’s performance.
2nd to 5th Grade
Age: 7 to 11 years
Throughout the Elementary School grades our focus is on improving the fluency of reading and spelling, as well as the refinement of logical reasoning and abstract thinking.
To ensure the success of the learning process we limit our class sizes to 15 students in order to better observe the individual progress of each child, closely.
Materials
We use books from the main Brazilian publishers, in addition to the materials prepared by our pedagogical team in order to meet the proficiency requirements of our Brazilian and foreign students. As an international school, our teaching resources are aligned with the schools' methodology.
The school calendar runs simultaneously obeying the local Brazilian school system as well as the international schools and therefore allowing a smooth transition for our students moving forward to either option.
